The Black House is located at the base of Mount Hafnarfjall on the west coast of Iceland, only 70 km north of Reykjavík. It was newly build in 2015 in the authentic black timber country house style, that were common in Iceland in 18th-19th century. The timber is stained in a deep black originally derived from natural tar to withstand the coastal environment, and the exterior palette and the form of the house complements the diverse and raw natural landscape in a simple and clear harmony. With only 50 meters walk down to the shore, the house has great views to the ocean and the Snæfellsnes peninsula. An ideal location if you want to explore the sights in the western parts of Iceland.
Inside, the house features a high-ceilinged living space that blends into the dining- and kitchen area. On the ground floor there is also a master bedroom and a spacious bathroom with a tub and a shower. Stairs lead up to a separate loft bedroom at the top with two single beds and a TV area overlooking the loving room. In total, this vacation home rental accommodates up to four guests and is perfect for a family or a small group of friends.
The layout, interiors and style of the space is designed and curated by its owner – the Icelandic designer Rut Káradóttir. Her expertise is reflected throughout. With a colour palette of moody hues, the space inspires a sense of calm, intimate cosiness- yet sleek, airy and elegant. This wonderful Icelandic gem will welcome you with simple country living and chic sophisticated style.
